History

Gates-Chili Cooperative Nursery School was founded in 1959, the first nursery school in the Gates area, by a group of parents who created the original guidelines for the school. Presently we are one of the few parent-run nursery schools in Monroe County. The school is administered by parents, while the curriculum is developed and directed by teachers. We are a not-for-profit organization located in the Church of the Epiphany at 3285 Buffalo Road Gates, New York.

Philosophy

The school’s philosophy is that children learn best through “play experiences”. We believe play is the best way for a child to accomplish the skills they need. Our curriculum emphasizes, social and emotional growth, while ensuring the child’s academic preparedness.

In the classroom children are encouraged to-

  • Become independent thinkers and confident learners
  • Grow emotionally, socially and intellectually
  • Become strong listeners
  • Use their cognitive and verbal skills to resolve conflicts
  • View school as fun

We also realize that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. The combination of parental involvement and play experiences help children to develop naturally.

Our small class sizes foster more individual attention to students’ needs.

*It is not necessary for children to be potty trained prior to starting our        programs.
